We are happy to send you a quality certificate for Combitip standard goods. Since Combitips are also available in Eppendorf Biopur quality, a batch-specific Eppendorf Biopur quality certificate is also available. The adapter is made of polypropylene (PP). PP is resistant to sodium hypochlorite for a very long time at room temperature.

The diameters of Combitips which can be used are: 0.1 ml ~ 1.5 mm, 0.2.ml ~ 2.2.mm, 0.5 ml ~ 3.6 mm, 1 ml ~ 5 mm, 2.5 ml ~ 8 mm, 5 ml ~ 11 mm, 10 ml ~ 16 mm, 25 ml ~ 25 mm, 50 ml ~ 36 mm.
Can you tell me how large the dead volume of the 0.5 ml and 1 ml Combitips?Back to top
The dead volume can be understood as the quantity of fluid not belonging to the dispensed volume, and which is contained between the piston and the cylinder base during operation (EN ISO 8655). It is dependent upon the size of the Combitip and upon the volume chosen and amounts to 88 µl for the 0.5 ml tip and 121 µl for the 1 ml tip.

No, you can also work with Combitips that are not completely filled. Please note that the 1st dispensing must also be discarded in this case.
Can Combitips be used in food analysis?Back to top
The materials used to produce Combitips (50 ml, 25 ml, 10 ml, 5 ml, 2.5 ml, 1 ml and 0.5 ml) are compliant with the requirements on materials used for articles or components of articles intended to come into contact with food as described in: France: Repression des Fraudes (1997), No 1227, et Supplément N° 1 EU: Commission Directive 90/128/EEC, 92/39/EEC, 93/9/EEC, 95/3/EC and 96/11/EC, Section A USA: FDA, CFR, Title 21 (1998), 177.1520(a)(3)(i)(c)(1), (b) and (3)3.1a Olefin polymers. Detection limits for monomers and additives used are not included in the directives mentioned. As Eppendorf does not use any additives and/or monomers in the production of Combitips, there should not be any problems.

These liquids have not been tested separately. The test result for petrol, which contains both these components, shows that use at room temperature is possible for 10 min to several hours. It should therefore be possible to pipette these substances.
Are Combitips resistant to acetonitrile?Back to top
Yes, however bleaching of the scale could occur in the long term.
Are Combitips resistant to acids?Back to top
Combitips plus are resistant to most moderate inorganic acids. For example, 10% nitric acid, 60% sulphuric acid, 40% hydrofluoric acid and 35% hydrochloric acid can be taken up without damaging the Combitip and can be dispensed over a period of several weeks. We are not, however, able to give any information about dispensing accuracy or functionality of liquid dispensing. Also, we are not able to make any generally applicable statements for organic acids since the resistance varies considerably, depending on the acid. For example, the Combitip is resistant to 50% acetic acid at room temperature, but not to butyric acid.

The piston of the 0.1 ml and 0.2 ml Combitips is made of LCP. This material is resistant against triflouric acetic acid when shortly exposed to the acid (less than 5 min). The temperature of the acid must not exceed room temperature.
Are Combitips resistant to trifluoroacetic acid?Back to top
This substance has not been tested separately. The test result for trichloroacetic acid on PE and PP shows that it is possible to use Combitips plus. Pipetting trifluoroacetic acid ought therefore to be possible too.

This substance was not tested separately. The test result for ethylene glycol on PE and PP shows that Combitips can be used. Pipetting of PEG should therefore also be possible.
Are the Combitips resistant against petroleum spirit N28?Back to top
The primary components of petroleum spirit are pentane, hexane and octane. Because the secondary components are unknown, we cannot guarantee that the Combitips are suitable for your application. However, we would be pleased to send you a sample of the Combitips to try out.

Yes. For this we recommend the "Combilong". It consists of a long suction tube that can be cut to the corresponding bottle depth. A reservoir is filled through this tube from which liquid can be drawn easily with the Combitip.

The Combitips adapter are wear parts. They should be changed regularly. Worn-out adapters might get caught when ejecting the combitip.

What is the meaning of the “Certified PCR Clean” label?Back to top
For molecular-biological requirements Eppendorf offers a new standard for uniform purity specifications. All consumables marked with the "Certified PCR Clean” label are guaranteed free of human DNA, DNase, RNase and PCR inhibitors. This new standard applies to 0.2 ml and 0.5 ml tubes, PCR Plate 96s, all options for plate sealing, in situ frames and deep well plates and mats.

What may lead to epTIPS boxes becoming deformed during autoclaving?Back to top
The geometry of the epBox housing changes when the box(es) is (are) forced into the autoclave and the door of the autoclave can only be closed with a degree of force. Once the autoclave has cooled down, the deformed shape is retained. Stacking of many boxes should also be avoided. What is more, autoclaving temperature should be checked regularly. Experience suggests that autoclaves are frequently operated at excessive temperatures. The permissible temperature quoted by Eppendorf should never be exceeded.

Is the epTIPS Box or are the epTIPS Racks UV-resistant?Back to top
The UV stability of the existing epTIPS Box of polycarbonate and of the existing epTIPS Racks of polypropylene were tested during development. These were thereby irradiated with a lamp of 254 nm and energy of approx. 1 J/cm2 for 16.7 hours. After 10 cycles, thus a total of 167 hours, there were still no signs of adverse effects on the box material. Because the energy of the lamp used is considerably higher than that of a lamp used in a sterile bench, it can be assumed that both boxes can be exposed to UV radiation for at least 300-600 hours in a sterile bench without problems. Because it is well known that polypropylene is at least 3 times more stable against UV radiation than polycarbonate, correspondingly longer UV stability under sterile bench conditions can be presumed for the epTIPS Racks.

Yes, they can be autoclaved exactly like the standard tips. Full function will be maintained. The Dualfilter tips cannot be autoclaved.

These tips will grant an advantage especially during pipetting of solutions containing detergents, such as PCR master mixes, enzyme solutions and many buffers. The LoRetention tips are characterized by significantly improved flow performance, thus achieving more economic use of expensive reagents, while valuable sample material is used effectively. Furthermore, reproducibility is improved, since wetting of the tip is dependent on both user and handling (for example: pipetting speed) and can therefore vary considerably.

The lids of the LoRetention racks and reloads have a transparent lid as compared to the blue lid of the standard tips. A reusable LoRetention adhesive sticker is placed on the lid. This sticker also features “LoRetention” writing on the reverse side. This way previously purchased epT.I.P.S. boxes can be labeled. The heat sealer from Eppendorf in combination with heat sealing foils or films offers the best sealing. Another effective method is to use Eppendorf cap strips. Plates made from polypropylene may be used across a broad spectrum of applications, as they are more resistant to temperature variations as well as various chemicals than plates made from polystyrene. For this application, plates made from polystyrene are used, which have a higher binding capacity for biomolecules. However, for antibody-based fluorescence or luminescence assays (e.g. with beads) Eppendorf PP Microplates with black or white wells are suitable, respectively.
Is it possible to perform absorption measurements in the Eppendorf PP Microplates?Back to top
Typically, absorption measurements are not performed in plates made from polypropylene, but in plates made from polystyrene, as this material generally has a very high transparency. Since the Eppendorf PP Microplates show considerably higher transparency compared to other plates made from polypropylene (see Application Note no. 202), the Eppendorf Microplates may be used for absorption measurements in certain cases.

Our tubes are not produced from antistatic material, i.e. they are basically not antistatic. But it should be noted that the use of antistatic agents during production will destroy or reduce the wettability of the tubes.

The non-amber colored Safe-Lock micro test tubes are UV resistant in the sense that DNA samples can be processed in them without danger of DNA chain damage. Samples are generally stored in the refrigerator or in an ice bath, and are therfore usually only very briefly exposed to daylight. We recommend the use of amber colored tubes for particularly light-sensitive samples.

They can be used from -80 °C to +100 °C. However at temperatures of > 95 °C the tube lids are more likely to pop open. For purposes of autoclaving, the tubes can be heated up to 121 °C.
To what extent are the amber colored Safe-Lock micro test tubes permeable to fluorescent dyes?Back to top
The amber colored Safe-Lock micro test tubes protect from light in the spectrum from 700 nm to the UV spectrum of 190 nm. In the spectrum of visible light (350 - 600 nm) the protection is optimal with lessening intensity. At app. 550 nm (excitation wavelength for Cy3) the measured deletion is app. 1, meaning that 90 % of the incident light is blocked by the walls of the tube. At 650 nm (excitation wavelength for Cy5) the measured deletion is app. 0.35, meaning that app. 65 % of the incident light is blocked by the walls of the tube. If that is not sufficient, we recommend wrapping the tube in aluminum foil.

"Eppendorf Tubes can be stored up to –200°C in the gaseous phase directly above the liquid nitrogen although we can't guarantee that the tubes stay sealed as it is possible that the lid could open accidentally.
